Cemex and Buzzi Unicem complete Kosmos Cement sale to Eagle Materials Inc

Cemex has divested its 75 per cent share in its partnership with Buzzi Unicem of Kosmos Cement in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, to Eagle Materials Inc. The divestment is for an aggregate amount of US$665m, of which Cemex will receive approximately US$499m. Meanwhile, Buzzi Unicem has sold its 25 per cent share in Kosmos Cement to Eagle Materials Inc. The deal includes the divestment of the Louisville cement plant and seven terminals and raw material reserves.

Cemex USA reveals new low-emission clinker transport

Cemex USA has established a new low-emission, high-efficiency locomotive to transport clinker at its plant in Victorville, California. The locomotive is equipped with an MTU-4000 Series engine, designed to cut emissions by more than 80 per cent and fuel consumption by 25 per cent. It is expected to reduce emissions by 34t per year, according to a company press release. Cemex USA has acquired a limestone quarry at Chico, Texas, 45 miles from Fort Worth. The 122ha site is believed to have a further 25 years of supply and the acquisition will bring the number of Texan quarries up to five. Cemex USA also has a cement works and 30 concrete batching plants in the state.

USA: Eagles Materials to buy Cemex Fairborn plant

Cemex US has signed a definitive agreement for the sale of its Fairborn (OH) cement plant and cement terminal in Columbus (OH), including a bagging operation to Eagle Materials Inc for approximately US$400m. The 2016 EBITDA for the divested assets is estimated to be US$33m. The proceeds obtained from this transaction will be used mainly for debt reduction and for general corporate purposes.
