SOTACIB’s new Kairouan cement plant begins production16 April 2012, Published under Cement NewsA new cement plant located in the Rouissat region, Kairouan governorate, by the Société Tuniso-Andalouse du Ciment Blanc (SOTACIB), has begun producing its first cement according to a statement from Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry. Iran output rises eight per cent11 April 2012, Published under Cement NewsIran registered an eight per cent YoY rise in cement production last year, which ended on 19 March with volumes reaching 66.4Mt, IRNA news agency reported. Some 67.6Mt of clinker was producer, up 12 per cent YoY. Meanwhile, exports of cement and clinker increased 17.44 per cent and reached 10.12Mt. At the trading level, the improvement was 3.2% to €1376.6m and the net interest charge was 6.8% lower at €545.8m and the total financial charge fell by 20.7% to €582.4m. Athi River pretax profit rises, Kenya28 March 2012, Published under Cement NewsKenya-based firm, Athi River Mining, posted a 23 per cent rise in 2011 pretax profit to KES1.36bn (US$16.4m), the company said while net profit came in at KES1150m.
