Lafarge WAPCO first-quarter rise, Nigeria

Lafarge WAPCO posted a turnover of NGN22.6bn (US$143.7m) in the first quarter of 2012, up from NGN14.198bn YoY, representing growth of 59 per cent above the 2011 figures. Profit after tax soared by 151 per cent from NGN1.621bn to NGN4.071bn in 2012. SOTACIB’s new Kairouan cement plant begins production

A new cement plant located in the Rouissat region, Kairouan governorate, by the Société Tuniso-Andalouse du Ciment Blanc (SOTACIB), has begun producing its first cement according to a statement from Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry. Iran output rises eight per cent

Iran registered an eight per cent YoY rise in cement production last year, which ended on 19 March with volumes reaching 66.4Mt, IRNA news agency reported.  Some 67.6Mt of clinker was producer, up 12 per cent YoY. Meanwhile, exports of cement and clinker increased 17.44 per cent and reached 10.12Mt. HeidelbergCement's turnover increased by 9.7% last year to €12,901.9m while the EBITDA improved by 3.6% to €2320.7m. At the trading level, the improvement was 3.2% to €1376.6m and the net interest charge was 6.8% lower at €545.8m and the total financial charge fell by 20.7% to €582.4m. The latest addition to the Nepal cement production base, Ghorahi Cement Udhyog in the Dang district, is to start production on the 25 April 2012. According to plant officials, construction is at its final stages, the Katmandu Post reports. HeidelbergCement completed the capacity expansion project at its cement plant in Górazdze, Poland, with the commissioning of a new cement mill. Kenya-based firm, Athi River Mining, posted a 23 per cent rise in 2011 pretax profit to KES1.36bn (US$16.4m), the company said while net profit came in at KES1150m. Turnover rose 37 per cent to KES8.2bn while cement sales increased 72 per cent helped by the commissioning of new capacities which came on-stream in late 2010.
