Semen Baturaja sales up 24% in first three months

Indonesian state-owned cement maker PT Semen Baturaja's first-quarter sales rose 24 per cent to 305,000t from a year earlier. The cement producer has also opened a new cement mill with a capacity of 750,000tpa, according to a report from Kresna Securities. Baturaja said it plans to join fellow Indonesian manufactures on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and “may go public in the next two years,” Sadikin Aksa, managing director of Bosowa Corp told the Jakarta Globe last week.

Lucky Cement begins production at Iraq works

Pakistan producer Lucky Cement has started production at its 0.87Mta joint venture grinding plant in Basra, Iraq. Lucky Cement CEO, Muhammad Ali Tabba, told local press that production started in February. DR Congo: North Kivu starts first cement plant

Nyiragongo launched its first cement on 1 April 2014 during a ceremony presided over by the head of the provincial executive, Julien Paluku. This is first cement works to be situated in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. The project was initiated by Mr Tana Twagira and will have an initial output of 50tpd.

Lafarge Brasil inaugurates Rio de Janeiro plant

Lafarge has inaugurated a new cement plant in Santa Cruz, in the western zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In its first year of operation the plant will produce some 500,000t of cement and will reach full capacity of 750,000tpa by 2015. The plant covers an area of more than 57,000m2, and is located on the edge of Avenida Brasil to facilitate logistical operations. Xuan Thanh Investment and Development JSC has started operations of its Thach My cement plant in the central Vietnam province of Quang Nam. The plant has a design capacity of 1.7Mta in the first phase. It  was identified as a key project of the province when construction started in July of 2010.

Cimentos de Moçambique, the Mozambican subsidiary of Cimpor, saw a 9.8 per cent rise in sales last year to 1.3Mt as the start up of two new mills and a more “aggressive commercial policy” improved competitiveness in 2013 against imports. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia has officially inaugurated Semen Tonasa’s Line V project and power plant in Pangkajene Island District, South Sulawesi. Ciments de L’Afrique (Cimaf), a subsidiary of Ciments de L’Atlas, has said it intends to officially start production at its Doula grinding plant in Cameroon next month.
