Cement sales in Ecuador in February 2012 increased 13.4 per cent YoY to 447,928t compared to 395,047t in the same month of last year, data from the Ecuadorian Institute of Cement and Concrete (Inecyc) showed. West China Cement Ltd has reported a rise in net profit and operating revenue for 2012 and says it expects an improved operating environment going forward due in part to increased infrastructure demand. The downward trend in Spanish cement demand shows no signs of abating as cement consumption in fell 25 per cent in February, the latest data by domestic association Oficemen shows. USA January shipments rise 5.2% YoY

Cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico for January were up by 5.2 per cent than the same month of last year, the latest preliminary data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows. Lafarge and the Zimbabwe government have agreed on Lafarge reducing its shareholding in the Zimbabwean cement manufacturer to 49 per cent. “We have agreed with the relevant authorities on the indigenisation modalities to bring down foreign shareholding to 49 per cent, in line with the indigenisation and economic empowerment [policy]. Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) has reported a rise in overall cement and clinker sales for the first two months of the year but export volumes declined. The country’s largest cement group sold 2.88Mt of cement and clinker in the first two months of the year, up by 30 per cent from a year earlier.
