Dominican Republic cement sales up 7.5% in 2016

Sales of cement in the Dominican Republic rose by 7.5 per cent by volume and 5.2 per cent by value in 2016 when compared with 2015 according to the country’s cement association, Adocem.  Domestic sales reached 4,247,468t in 2016 while in 2015 3,950,956t were delivered. In terms of value, cement sales rose from DOP15.233m (US$325,844) in 2015 to 16.03m the following year. Dominican Republic: Cemex starts solar tender process for San Pedro de Macorís

Cemex has opened tendering process for its new photovoltaic solar plant at San Pedro de Macorís in the Dominican Republic. The cement producer is looking for a company that can build and operate its new 13MW solar power plant and sell the output to Cemex. In 2014 Cemex opened its first solar farm with a capacity of 1.5MW. This was followed by an electricity supply agreement to provide its San Pedro de Macorís cement plant with wind power.

The power company EGE Haina will sell wind energy to Cemex Dominicana, for its cement plant located in San Pedro (east), as a unregulated user of the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI). Domicem inaugurates new mill

Domicem, owned by Italy’s Colacem, has inaugurated its new vertical mill at its plant in south-central San Cristobal province of the Dominican Republic. The new mill was supplied by Loesche GmbH and represents an investment of over DOP900m (U$19.66m). National cement production in the Dominican Republic reached 5.18Mt, an increase of 3.2 per cent YoY, according to official statistics. This represents 75 per cent of the country’s installed production capacity of 6.91Mt. Meanwhile, the domestic market expanded by 6.2 per cent when compared with 2014. The ban on exports to Haiti will cost Cementos Andino DOP2m, according to Cementos Andino President, Nelson Bello. Cemex Dominicana recently announced a US$6m investment to increase the packing and palletizing capacity of its cement plant at San Pedro de Macoris (east). It said the investment in a new cement packing unit forms part of the company’s strategic plan in the Dominican Republic in response to local market requirements, Dominican Today reports. The new unit will boost Cemex's capacity by more than 1.5m additional bags monthly, or 800,000tpa.
