Cemex to invest US$7m in San Pedro de Macoris

Cemex is investing DOP315m (US$7m) in a new packing and palletising line at its San Pedro de Macoris plant, Dominican Republic, to increase capacity and cover market demand for the next five years. In addition, the company will also carry out an upgrade to one of the works’ mills. This will allow the company to increase output and ensure a greater continuity of operation. Cemex is also investing MXN256.5m in 50 concrete mixing trucks.

Dominican Republic full-year sales seen rising 18% YoY

Cemex launches Dominican Republic solar power plant

Cemex announced the launch of a 1.5MW power plant to supply renewable energy to its cement plant in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic. Cemex is carrying out investments DOP989m (US$22.75m) worth of investments in the Dominican Republic to improve energy efficiency as well as enhance bagging and distribution capabilities. The Dominican Republic sold around 2.9Mta of cement in 2013, cement association Adocem has said. Compared with 2012 sales, this performance heralds a break with the declining trend witnessed since 2007. Cementos Argos has reported a rise in cement volumes for the six months to the end of June 2013 and expects activity in its domestic market of Colombia to accelerate after a slow start in the first three months. President Danilo Medina of the Dominican Republic has officially inaugurated Cementos Panam's (PANAM)  US$80m cement plant in San Pedro. PANAM executive Manuel Estrella said the facility will create 800 direct and 2400 indirect jobs, and help boost sales for region’s goods and services.
