INC raises cement price

Paraguayan cement producer INC has increased the price of a bag of cement by PYG2500 (US$0.42). The company is now selling cement for PYG39,800/bag. The company has attributed the need to increase cement prices due to higher transport costs. The low water level in the Paraguay river has led to the need to use trucks to move raw materials and has also resulted in cement shortages in the country. INC is aiming to maintain supply at 35,000-40,000 bags/day.

INC reports record July sales

Paraguay-based Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC) has reported a record volume in cement sales at the end of July, reports Agencia de Información Paraguaya. The company sold 1,610,708 bags of cement in July, or an average of 48,500 bags/day. The price of cement in Paraguay has soared from PYG60,000/bag (US$9.28/bag) to PYG45,000/bag as a cement shortage persists. State-run cement producer Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC) is only producing 12,000 bags/day, according to Esmerk Latin American News. Meanwhile, Cementos Yguazu and imports are narrowing the gap. Cement demand in Paraguay is around 100,000 bags/day. Usually, INC supplies around 50,000 bags/day.

Industrial Nacional de Cemento (INC) of Paraguay will launch a new type of high-strength cement, CP II - C40 in February in the domestic market, according to INC President, Jorge Méndez. "With this new product we seek to gain other niches within the local market and thus also have presence with our brand," said Mr Méndez. Paraguay-based Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has reduced cement prices to PYG36,500/bag from PYG39,800/bag - the third price reduction in the past four years. Production costs at the Vallemi plant are falling. The switch from fuel oil to petcoke has enabled the company to save US$20m. In addition, cement production increased to 180tpd from 80tpd during the same time frame. “From 1 January to Friday, 4 July 2017, 7246,884 bags were dispatched,” according to INC.
