Lafarge has opened a 4000t cement silo in Thilafushi, Maldives, taking total capacity to 9000t. The new facility was opened up by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed together with representatives from Lafarge and the State Trading Organisation (STo). Bénédicte de Bonnechose is Lafarge France’s new managing director, following in the footsteps of Pascal Casanova, who moves to the LafargeHolcim Executive Committee. Since 1993, she has led a varied career with Lafarge, fullfilling a multitude of roles, including financial director of Betons France and director of strategy, public affairs and environment for Lafarge’s operations in France. Early 2013 saw her appointed as managing director of Granulats France.

Lafarge to buy out Baring stake in Indian unit

As part of the implementation in India of its planned merger with Holcim - and subject to its completion - Lafarge has signed an agreement to acquire the 14 per cent stake held by Baring in Lafarge India, for a consideration of EUR270m.   Following this transaction, subject to the approval of the regulatory authorities, Lafarge will hold 100 per cent of the shares of Lafarge India.

Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe secures additional funding for plant upgrades

Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe has secured approval from its parent company, Lafarge Group, to invest an additional $5m on plant upgrades this year. The cement maker last year announced plans to invest about $10m-$15m on upgrading grinding capabilities. Lafarge expects modest Czech sales growth

Lafarge Cement sales rose by five per cent in 2004 to CZK965m (EUR35m) due in part to a revival of domestic construction activity. Profit from operations soared by 53 percent to CZK179m. The growth is attributed to rising sales, an extraordinary revenue from the sale of carbon credits and operating savings, spokesperson Milena Hucanova told CTK Business News. Holcim said Monday it has launched the public exchange offer for all the shares of Lafarge, marking the final stage of the merger of the two cement majors. Lafarge and Holcim have now entered a binding agreement with CRH regarding the sale of several assets with an enterprise value of EUR6.5bn. As announced in February 2015, the assets include operations mainly in Europe, Canada, Brazil and the Philippines (see below).
