Taiwanese producers report positive May results

Taiwan’s Hsing Ta Cement has reported a 30 per cent YoY increase in revenue for May 2019, rising to TWD800.42m (US$25.4m) from TWD625.56m. In the first five months of the year, the company saw revenue advance 30.6 per cent to TWD2.91bn from TWD2.23bn. Meanwhile, Lucky Cement announced that its revenue was up 3.6 per cent to TWD305.28m in May, compared with TWD294.58m in the year-ago period. In Jan-May 2019, revenue increased 3.9 per cent to TWD1.46bn from TWD1.41bn.

Lucky Cement has seen gas supply cut off at its Pezu plant as a result of the ongoing drive against gas theft undertaken by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Pakistan’s Lucky Cement Ltd has reported a PAT of PKR8.29bn (US$58.53m) during the nine-month period ended 31 March, a 15.4 per cent fall compared to PKR9.80bn of last year. Lucky Cement revenues slip 15% in February

Taiwan-based Lucky Cement report revenues in February of TWD168.065m (US$5.4m), down 14.9 per cent when compared with TWD197.481m in February 2018. Revenues in the first two months of 2019 remained largely stable at TWD521.254m when compared with TWD517.821m in January-February 2018.

Pakistan cement firms' profitability remain vulnerable in 1H19

Pakistan's cement industry earned foreign exchange revenue of US$26.74m by exporting 616,648t of cement during October 2018, compared to US$29.05m on 671,913t of cement in previous month. This represents a fall of 7.9 per cent and 8.23 per cent in value and quantity, respectively on MoM, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics.
