Ghorahai works halts production

Nepal-based producer Ghorahai Cement Industry (GCI) has halted output at its cement plant in the Dang district as protests by tipper operators disrupt the flow of production. Nepal: Sarbottam Cement launches commercial operations

Sarbottam Cement, a newcomer to the Nepalese cement industry, has started commercial operations from its new greenfield plant. The project is promoted by local company Saurabh Group while a foreign investor holds a 45 per cent stake. The Sarbottam Cement plant will have the capacity to produce 400,000t of clinker in the first stage, and then 1Mt in the future, according to the company's website. The new cement facility is also equipped with its own power plant.

Nepalese factory gets set to launch commercial production

Arghakhanchi Cement is set to start commercial production from its greenfield works next week. The cement factory has a clinker and cement capacity of 1200tpd and 1000tpd, respectively.  Finished product will be sold under the Arghakhanchi Cement brand. India’s Reliance Group, headed by Anil Ambani, has received clearance to build a cement plant in Nepal. The INR24.8bn (US$401.1m) cement works is expected to be constructed in central or eastern Terai. Reliance currently operates 5.8Mta of installed capacity but plans to lift it to 15Mta in the next three years. The government of Nepal has said it will expand access roads to 11 cement plants and supply electricity to eight factories during the current fiscal to facilitate cement production. Prices of most building materials including cement have increased in the Kathmandu valley since last year, according to local traders. The board of Hetauda Cement Industries Ltd decided on Tuesday to raise the price of cement due to increased raw material costs. The Nepalese-based cement producer is to increase prices by NPR28.25/bag (US$0.30), the Kathmandu Post reported. Shareholders in Padma Cement, which is currently in the process of being liquidated, have expressed concern following the news that the liquidator's office will pay out dues of lenders first. Nepal-based cement producers have reported a 10-15 per cent YoY increase in 2013 cement sales as the construction of dams, bridges and housing projects boosts demand. CG invests in Nepalese plants

Nepal´s leading business conglomerate Chaudhary Group (CG) is investing NPR10bn (US$101m) on cement plants in Dumkibas of Nawalparasi and Palpa. The CG brand of cement produced at the Dumkibas-based plant has already hit the market. The factory produces 1300tpd. Similarly, CG is also setting up both clinker and cement plants in Palpa with an investment of NPR7.5bn in the Palpa plants.
