Udayapur Cement production levels increased

Udayapur Cement, the largest cement producer in Nepal has resumed higher levels of production which had recently been scaled back because of technical difficulties. The company’s cement plant has a capacity of 800tpd but due problems with equipment the plant had only been producing 450tpd. However, general manager of the plant Dr Surendra Prasad, has since told The Himalyan newspaper that the issues have been rectified and production has been increased to 550tpd.

Nepal’s Ministry of Energy has proposed that the country’s Finance Ministry include an additional tax of NPR1 on every bag of cement sold on the market which would then be specifically used for rural electrification projects. Cement prices in Nepal are set to rise by an average NPR30-40/bag as production costs escalate.  The increase is mainly attributed to rising petroleum and clinker costs, Nepal Republic Media reports.
