Chaudhary Group launches production at new Nepal plant

The Chaudhary Group (CG) has started production from a new 1500tpd plant in Nepal. Barun Chaudhary, director of CG, said the new Chinese-built plant can produce 250tpd of OPC and 1350tpd of PPC. Hetuda factory resumes production, Nepal

Hetuda Cement Factory has resumed clinker production following a three week closure due to a technical issue with its kiln. Nepal's Ministry of Industry (MoI) has decided to allocate NPR360m (US$3.5m) to provide electricity connections to nine cement factories as part of its infrastructural development programme for manufacturing industries. The Nepal Bureau of Standards & Metrology (NBSM) has shut down Butwal Cement Mills and Shubha Shree Jagadamba. Cement imports to Nepal have increased by 15.5 per cent in the first 10 months of the year, according to data from the Trade and Export Promotion Centre. During the review period, Nepal imported NPR3.34bn compared to NPR2.89m in the same period of last year, despite seven new cement factories being established. A cement plant in Nepal has been unable to producer clinker for over a year and a half as local residents have prevented it from extracting limestone. Arghakhanchi Cement Industry obtained a 30-year permit from the government to extract 1000tpd of limestone at Narapani, Arghakhanchi, however local residents have said the quarry has caused their water sources to dry up.
