Bangladesh’s MI Cement Factory Ltd has announced that it will set up its sixth cement unit in Muktagachha, Munshiganj, at a cost of BDT6bn (US$71.54m). The new line is expected to have a capacity of 8400tpd and enter commercial operation by 2021. Upon completion, the company’s total capacity will rise 76 per cent to 19,400tpd from 11,000tpd. Dispute over land allocation for Moroto cement plant

The Moroto District local government in Uganda has offered more than 228.1ha of land for a cement factory to be built. However, local residents dispute the amount of land that the council owns. Work to start on 1.5Mta cement plant in Tunisia

United Cement Investor, a Tunisian company, is building a greenfield 1.5Mta cement plant in Tunisia. The plant will be situated in Bir Thlathin, south Tataouine, Tunisia and work is to begin on construction in March 2019. The new facility will create 419 direct jobs and 600 indirect jobs, but the French investors have so far only acquired 65 per cent of the land required. The plant is scheduled to be completed by 2022.

JK Cement Ltd on Monday launched a qualified institutional placement offering (QIP) to raise funds from institutional investors for its capital expenditure.
