Mon State refuses to extend building permit for Myanmar-Korea Cement Group

The Myanmar-Korea Cement Group will not be granted permission to extend its permit to build a cement plant in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon state, having only constructed 10 per cent of the plant, three years after the initial permit was awarded by the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC). Raysut Cement establishes partnership for Somaliland plant

Oman’s Raysut Cement Co has established a partnership with MSG Group to set up a grinding unit in Somaliland, an autonomous region of Somalia. The 1Mta unit is expected to be constructed in Berbera, Somaliland, at an investment of around US$40m. Raysut reportedly has 55 per cent of the share capital of the project, according to Reuters.

Cementos Melon gets go ahead for Punta Arenas grinding plant

Chile's Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA) has passed the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for Cementos Melón (Brescia Industrial Group) to construct the company's new grinding unit in Punta Arenas, Magallanes region. Pierre Fattouche, a businessman with interestes in Armenia and South Sudan, wants to build a 3Mta cement plant in Lebanon to export cement to Syria. Xuan Khiem Group seeks approval for new 2.3Mta plant

Vietnam’s Xuan Khiem Group is seeking approval from the prime minister to build a new 2.3Mta facility in Hoa Binh province at an investment of VND4.99trn (US$214.16m), according to Vietnam News. The Xuan Son project is scheduled to complete in 2020, with the plant expected to cover 38ha of land in Yen Thuy district. At the end of last year, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the People’s Committee of Hoa Binh to build the plant.

Brazil’s CSN Cimentos has announced plans to invest BRL1.5bn (US$387.84m) for a new 3Mta cement facility in Paraná. Tajikistan’s Tajik Cement has signed an investment agreement for the construction and commissioning of a new 1.2Mta plant. The state-run producer is reportedly seeking US$100m in foreign direct investments for the project. The country produced 1.2Mt of cement in the Jan-Apr period of this year, rising 75,000t from the year-ago period.
