New Liberian project proposed to NIC

Capital Link Corp has proposed a new Liberian cement plant project to the country’s National Investment Commission (NIC). Moullela Gray, chair of NIC, has disclosed to the Senate Committee on Concession and Investment that the country stands to benefit from US$35m during 15 years of operation. Star Cement receives approval for 0.6Mta Liberian project

Star Cement has received approval from the Liberian government to construct a 0.6Mta plant in Monrovia at an estimated investment of US$41m. Following commissioning, the price of cement is expected to drop in the domestic market and assist a boom in the construction industry, according to a company press release. India Cements is reportedly in the process of acquiring land in Madhya Pradesh for a new plant project which would take its total capacity to 20Mta, according to The Economic Times. The company has already acquired a company with an existing mining lease to use its limestone reserves. The project is worth around INR14bn (US$197m), with the producer expected to compete the final land investments over the next few months.

CG Cement plans new plant in Sri Lanka

Nepal’s CG Cement has announced plans to invest US$150m to set up a new plant in Mannar, Sri Lanka. According to Binod Chaudhary, owner of the company, it has already received approval for the project. Mon State refuses to extend building permit for Myanmar-Korea Cement Group

The Myanmar-Korea Cement Group will not be granted permission to extend its permit to build a cement plant in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon state, having only constructed 10 per cent of the plant, three years after the initial permit was awarded by the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC). Oman’s Raysut Cement Co has established a partnership with MSG Group to set up a grinding unit in Somaliland, an autonomous region of Somalia. The 1Mta unit is expected to be constructed in Berbera, Somaliland, at an investment of around US$40m. Raysut reportedly has 55 per cent of the share capital of the project, according to Reuters.
