Pakistan cement producers have reduced prices by PKR5-23/bag, passing on the cut in the prices of petroleum products and coal, according to a recent market survey. Pakistan’s cement dispatches rose by 11 per cent YoY in November 2014 to 3Mt largely thanks to higher domestic demand and exports from the northern region. Civil works have started on the bulk cement handling project at Port Qasim of Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Ltd (PIBTL). Earlier this year, PIBTL awarded the PKR12.5bn EPC contract to China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHE). Cherat Cement will construct a new plant with a cement capacity of over 1.3Mta. The project will cost PKR12bn (US$118m) and take 30 months to deliver. In the first four months of FY14/15, Pakistan’s cement producers and exporters exported 3.116Mt of cement, down 3.8 per cent YoY. The total value of the shipments fell by three per cent from US$189.77m to US$184m. Pakistan cement sales increased by 8.87 per cent to 8.197Mt during the first four months of the current fiscal year, latest data by All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) shows. In July-October, exports of cement decreased 4.43 per cent to 2.79Mt  over the same period last fiscal year. Pakistan cement exports continued to fall in the first quarter of FY14-15, largely due to declining shipments to its biggest market of Afghanistan. Export volumes in the July-September 2014 period fell by 3.85 per cent to 2.436Mt while revenues were down 3.22 per cent to US$ 142.77m. In terms of the Pakistan rupee, revenues also showed a 5.38 per cent drop to PKR14.36bn. Lucky Cement Ltd, Pakistan’s leading cement producer, saw a 4.8 per cent rise in net profit for the first quarter of the current Pakistan fiscal to PKR2.669bn (US$26m). Pakistan-based producer Fauji Cement on Tuesday announced a net profit of PKR602m (US$5.8m) during the first quarter (Jul-Sep) of the current fiscal, up three per cent YoY. Earnings per share increased to PKR0.45 from an EPS of PKR0.44 during the period under review.
