GCC signs agreement for clean energy supply

Mexico’s Grupo Cementos Chihuahua (GCC) has signed an agreement with a US-based clean energy provider for the supply of solar and wind energy to its cement plant in Odessa, Texas, to fulfil 100 per cent of the facility’s electricity requirement. Nepal’s Udayapur Cement Industry Ltd has seen reduced production and sales between August-September as a result of low voltage and abrupt power cuts, according to the company. Sanjay Lal Karna, chief of the production division, said that the state-owned factory has not been able to address market demand due to the power supply issues. Higher electricity costs to impact Vietnamese cement prices

Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (VICEM) has announced that its electricity costs will increase by VND20bn (US$855,730) per month, and therefore product prices are also expected to rise. China’s Sinoma Energy Conservation has signed a KES25.5bn (US$251m) deal to power Devki Group’s Athi River cement plant and its Mombasa-based raw steel processor.
