Cement prices in Pakistan have fallen in the opening week of March, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. The average retail price of a bag of cement in the northern regions of Pakistan came in at PKR1248 (US$4.47) in the first week of March, down 0.29 per cent from the average of PKR1251 seen in the previous week. Italian cement output expanded eight per cent YoY in December 2023, according to the Italian concrete association, Federbeton. This was largely driven by robust demand from local public sector works, which totaled EUR18.1bn in the year to December. City Cement predicts 8% cost increase

City Cement has said that its total costs are expected to advance by eight per cent following the increase in the price of fuel products used in cement products that was announced by Saudi Arabian Oil Co (Aramco) last month. According to Mist News, the direct financial impact is expected to be seen from the first quarter of 2024, although the company added that its investments in alternative fuel and waste heat recovery systems had helped to mitigate some of the fuel price increase. 

Nigerian producers agree to lower prices

Nigeria-based Dangote , BUA Cement and Lafarge have agreed to lower cement prices in the country, despite rising production costs. According to This Day Live, the three manufacturers have stated that a 50kg bag of cement should have a maximum retail price of NGN8000 (US$4.98). Cement prices in Nigeria have risen by 30 per cent in the last few days, reaching NGN6500 (US$5.44)/bag in some regions, reports The Guardian. Cement prices across Pakistan have declined over the last week, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, bringing welcome relief to builders and developers across the country.  The average retail price of a bag of cement in the northern regions of Pakistan has fallen from PKR1246 (US$4.45) last week to PKR1238 this week, a contraction of 0.57 per cent, reports Samaa.
