Romania's competition authority is to analyse LafargeHolcim's acquisition of Romanian precast concrete producer Somaco. Romanian cement market valued at EUR650-700m in 2018

The value of the Romanian cement market is estimated between EUR650m-700m (US$743m-800m) and is primarily supported by three large players: LafargeHolcim, HeidelbergCement and CRH. The three cement majors reported around RON3bn in total sales in 2018, representing a YoY rise of 10 per cent. LafargeHolcim’s Romanian operations were valued at EUR633m, followed by CRH (EUR469m) and HeidelbergCement (EUR410m).

CIROM: Romanian cement market growth muted at 2%

Romania’s cement association, CIROM, expects the country’s cement market to show only modest growth in 2018. "We are not very optimistic about the cement market in 2018. For the year 2015 three major cement producers in Romania saw an increase in both sales and profits. Holcim Romania increased its sales by 15 per cent in 2015, achieving a turnover of EUR253m (US$287.5m). The company also reported a net profit of EUR29m, 81 per cent higher compared to 2014. Romania: CRH Ciment sees profits rise 40% in 2015

The Romanian subsidiary of CRH, CRH Ciment, has released performance figures for 2015, reports Romania Insider. CRH Ciment saw turnover reach EUR189m (US$211m) in 2015, up 23 per cent YoY. Profits climbed faster still, reaching EUR30.1m, up 40 per cent YoY. The business was acquired by CRH from Lafarge as part of the divestment process that accompanied the formation of LafargeHolcim. Holcim Romania remains the largest cement producer in the country.
