Morgan Stanley has raised its rating on Italy's Buzzi Unicem to "overweight" from "equal weight", on a strong upside potential for the cement maker's stock which has underperformed the market since February amid uncertainty over Ukrainian and Russian markets. Eurocement first-half shipments rise, Russia

In the first half of 2014, Eurocement Group shipped over 450,000t of  PC 500-D0-N grade cement, 24 per cent higher than the previous year. PC 500-D0-N cement is actively being used in the construction of road projects and is seeing particularly strong demand in the Moscow market. Russian cement major Eurocement is facing the loss of its facility in Uzbekistan in a nationalisation drive by the central Asian country. An Uzbek economic court in Tashkent has annulled Eurocement's 2006 acquisition of Uzbekistan's biggest cement producer, Akhangarancement, which could lead to its nationalisation. Holcim (Russia) new CEO appointed

Guillermo Brusco has been appointed CEO of Holcim (Russia), effective 1 July 2014. He replaces Gustavo Navarro.  Mr Brusco’s responsibility will cover the strategic development of Holcim Group companies in Russia. He started his career within the Holcim Group in 1988 holding various positions in Venezuela, US and Italy. Starting in 2003 he served as plant manager of the Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico, and has also held the position of Operations Vice President of Holcim (Argentina).

Eurocement signs Uzbekistan supply contract

Eurocement has signed a US$128m contract with China CAMC Engineering, a unit of Sinomach, for the supply of equipment, as well as design, installation, and training for a new cement plant in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, the group said in a statement Monday. Belgorodskiy Cement monthly output increases 6% YoY

Belgorodskiy Cement, a member of Russia’s Eurocement group, produced 155,439t of cement, six per cent more than the same month of 2013. The company witnessed increased demand for high-quality PC-500-D0-N cement during April 2014. A total of 27,325t of this cement type was produced, 15,077t more than during the comparative period in the year before.

Iskitimcement forecasts flat 2014 sales

Iskitimcement, based in Novosibirsk region, Siberia, said sales are expected to remain flat this year at 1.7M, according to Russian media. Eurocement Group and Sberbank of Russia have signed a cooperation agreement to secure funding for the construction of new plants in Russia. The agreement was signed by Filaret Galchev, Eurocement’s chairman of the board of directors, and Herman Gref, CEO and chairman of Sberbank during the XVIII St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
