Mechel signs memorandum with Jidong Cement

Russian mining and metals company Mechel ОАО signed a  coal supply memorandum with Chinese cement producer Jidong Cement. According to the signed memorandum, Mechel is due to supply 1Mt of steam coal produced at Neryungrinsky and Elga open pits to Jidong Cement between April 2015 and March 2016. The price and exact volume of the supplies will be determined on a monthly basis. Buzzi Unicem's first-quarter turnover increased by 3.4 per cent to EUR513.39m and the EBITDA went from a EUR10.26m to EUR27.15m. Earlier this month a delegation from Anhui Conch Cement Company Ltd met with the governor of the Chelyabinsk region in Russia to discuss the possibility of setting up a cement plant in the South Urals. Conch reportedly in discussions for Chelyabinsk plant, Russia

The government of the Chelyabinsk region (Urals) and China's Anhui Conch Cement Co (ACCC) are negotiating the construction of a cement plant, according to Russian news sources. Conch has been provided several plots for assessment, the reports state. According to General Manager Wang Jianchao, a project scheme will be determined in the near future, whether to modernise existing production facilities or build a new at an undeveloped deposits. Russia: Gornozavodsktsement to raise output

Gornozavodsktsement, based in the Volga region of Russia, plans to produce 1.55Mt of cement worth RUB4.49bn (EUR74.01m) in 2015). The company, which has a capacity of 2.2Mta, produced 1.578Mt in 2014 (+3 per cent against 2013). Revenue amounted to RUB4.472bn (+3.5 per cent). Net profit totalled RUB941m against RUB 838m in 2013.

Buzzi Unicem returns to a net profit

On a turnover just 0.1 per cent lower at EUR2506.4m, Buzzi Unicem's underlying EBITDA did increase by 7.1 per cent to EUR404.8m in 2014, while at the headline level there was a 4.8 per cent advance to EUR422.7m. Russian demand expected to fall 15% YoY

Russian cement demand is expected to decline by 15 per cent this year on the back of a reduction in housing and infrastructure development, according to forecasts by CMPRO. A recent note by the research house states that sales have dropped by at least five per cent since the start of 2015. The slow decline may continue for several years, it added. Belarus to export 1.8Mt in 2015

Belarusian manufacturers are expected to export 1.8Mt of cement in 2015, including 1.3Mt to be supplied to Russia's Eurocement, Construction Minister, Anatol Chorny, told reporters in Minsk on Thursday. LSR Group has completed sale of its cement plant located in Slantsy, Leningrad region, to Russian market leader, Eurocement. Following closure of the deal, Eurocement has now acquired full operating control over the facility based in northwest Russia. Russia: Angarsk Cement full-year output up 8% YoY

Angarsk Cement and Mining Plant increased the output of cement to 770,000t in 2014, up eight per cent YoY. Clinker production edged ahead one per cent to 624,000t.  The plant targets minimum cement production of a minimum of 715,000t this year.
