According to the Federal Customs Service (FCS), Russia exported over 2Mt of cement worth US$155m in the first three quarters of 2014. Ukraine was the leader by shipments, with its share totalling 35 per cent. Kazakhstan's share reached 32 per cent and Belarus imported 21 per cent. Mikhailovcement Jan-Sept output up 20.2% YoY

Mikhailovcement, part of the Eurocement group, produced 1.21Mt of cement in January-September 2014, up 20.2 per cent on the comparative period of last year. The Mikhailovcement plant, situated in the Ryazan region, produced 281,350t of  CEM I 42.5H (+65.6 per cent) and 981,620t of clinker (+17 per cent) during the period. A total of 1.234Mt were shipped to customers, up +21.1 per cent YoY.

Belarus intends to increase exports to Russia

Lafarge has agreed the sale of its wholly-owned Russian subsidiary Uralcement to Buzzi Unicem for EUR104m and the proceeds will be used to reduce Lafarge's net debt. Buzzi Unicem is to acquire, through its subsidiary Dyckerhoff, the 100 per cent interest in Uralsement from Lafarge for EUR104m in cash. The deal, which still requires regulatory approval, is expected to be completed later this year. The single plant has a capacity of 1.1Mta and is located near the town Korkino some 40 km south of Chelyabinsk and has ample raw material reserves. When completed, Buzzi Unicem should have a Russian cement capacity of some 4.5Mta, all in the Urals.

Lafarge to sell Russian plant to Buzzi Unicem

Buzzi Unicem, through its fully-owned subsidiary Dyckerhoff GmbH, has reached an agreement to acquire a 100 per cent interest in Lafarge's UralCement plant in Russia for an enterprise value of EUR104m. The 1.1Mta wet-process plant is located in the town of Korkino, some 40km south of Chelyabinks. The transaction is subject to authorisation from relevant authorities. Morgan Stanley has raised its rating on Italy's Buzzi Unicem to "overweight" from "equal weight", on a strong upside potential for the cement maker's stock which has underperformed the market since February amid uncertainty over Ukrainian and Russian markets. In the first half of 2014, Eurocement Group shipped over 450,000t of  PC 500-D0-N grade cement, 24 per cent higher than the previous year.
