Titan’s first half turnover declined by 1.6 per cent to €547.9m and the EBITDA fell by 21.3 per cent to €112.1m, as the cement producer is caught amid a continued downturn it its domestic market of Greece and US operations prove to be its only bright spot. Cementir expects a better second half from Turkey

Sancim Cement to build new plant in Adana, Turkey

Sancim Cement is to build a new cement plant in Adana, southern  Turkey, according to daily Milliyet. The plant will be able to produce 1.7Mta of clinker and 2Mta cement and the investment period is expected to be around 20-22 months.

Brazil competition authority approves Camargo purchase of Cimpor

Brazil’s competition authority CADE has approved Camargo Correa’s purchase of a controlling stake in Portuguese cement producer Cimpor, subject to several conditions. The main condition set by the regulator is that Votorantim, Camargo’s competitor on the Brazilian market, sells its stake in Cimpor. Loesche supplies Europe’s largest cement mill to Turkey

Nuryol Cimento Sanayi ve Ticaret AS has chosen Loesche to supply mills for coal grinding, raw material and clinker grinding for the Turkish manufacturers new 4000tpd plant in Karasu, 150km east of Istanbul. Borcim receives positive response to EIA, Turkey

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for a proposed cement plant by Borcim Cement Manufacturing and Trading has received approval by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism. The new works, to be situated in the Emet district of Kutahya, will produce OPC, white and Boron Activated Belite (BAB) cement. Polimeks plant construction underway, Turkmenistan

The construction of Turkish company Polimeks new 1Mta cement plant in the Lebap region, Turkmenistan is underway, Neutral Turkmenistan reported. The main technological and additional equipment is being assembled on site and construction work on the social facilities has been completed. The railway line has been laid to the factory and a highway is being built. Most raw materials such as limestone, clay, gypsum and sand will be delivered to the plant from the local quarry.

The Turkish Competition Board recently rendered its decision regarding 10 undertakings operating in the cement sector in the Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia, Eastern Black Sea and Adana regions of Turkey. Sibirsky Cement has paid out over EUR4m to the London branch of Netherlands-based ING Bank NV regarding a failed deal between the Russian producer and Italcementi for Turkish assets, according to local press reports. In 2008, Sibirsky concluded an agreement with ING Bank to organize the purchase financing of the Italcementi Set Group of Turkey which is a subisidiary of Ciments Francais (which, in turn is a unit of Italcementi). Turkish cement forecast to rise five per cent

The Turkish Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMB) forecasts that consumption could rise five per cent in 2012. Mustafa Guclu of the TCMB said domestic sales could reach 58.5Mt compared to 55.7Mt last year. Members of the association produced nearly 52.2Mt of that volume. Domestic cement sales were said to have risen 11 per cent last year over the 50Mt recorded in 2010.
