Turkish cement producer OYAK has become the front runner in the bidding to buy British Steel. The Turkish pension fund has been talking with the UK government to takeover British Steel via Ataer Holding, a wholly owned investment vehicle of OYAK, reports the Financial Times. Turkey’s Sonmez Cimento Yapi ve Madencilik has signed a turnkey EPC contract with CTP Team (Italy) for a WHR unit at its Sonmez Cement plant. Turkish cement producers see exports surge 46% in 1H19

Cement exports from Turkey in the first half of 2019 have increased by 46 per cent YoY to US$444m, according to the Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TÇMB). Turkish cement sales in the local market declined 41 per cent YoY in the January-April 2019 period due to a weak housing market, the overall slowdown in the country’s economy and unfavourable weather conditions, according to Nihat Ozdemir, head of the Turkish Cement Manufacturers' Association (TCMB).
