Vicem Hoang Mai Cement seeks to raise 2013 pretax target, Vietnam

Vicem Hoang Mai Cement JSC is seeking approval from its parent company Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) to revise its 2013 pretax target upwards by 4.65 per cent. The company hopes to raise its target to VND90bn (US$4.29m) from the initial VND86bn, its chief accountant, Tran Minh Son, told the Dau Tu Chung Khoan newspaper. Last year Hoang Mai Cement achieved a net profit of VND112.72bn (US$5.39m) on revenue of VND1.53trn last year, down 13 and up 8.07 per cent, respectively.

Vietnam Jan-Feb production rises 16%

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 8.2Mt of cement in the first two months of this year, up 16 per cent from a year earlier, according to the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. Cement producers in Vietnam sold 3.6Mt to the domestic market in January, down 16.28 per cent from the month before due to a stagnant real estate market. Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), the leading cement producer in the country, sold 20.4Mt of cement and clinker in 2012, rising by 8.8 per cent from a year earlier and fulfilling 96.4 per cent of its full-year target. Vietnam-based cement manufacturers produced more than 47Mt of cement in 2012, meeting 85.5 per cent of their full year target, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Construction (MoC) on its website. Thach My secures new loan, Vietnam

The Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) is to provide a loan to Thach My for its new cement plant under construction in the central province of Quang Nam Local media report that the BIDV will loan nearly VND2trn (US$95.83m) to the plant which has a design capacity of 2Mta. The plant was identified as a key project of the Quang Nam province when it started construction in 2010. The new works is expected to be completed in June 2013.

Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) said it made a net profit of VND660trn (US$31.62bn) in 2012, rising by 36 per cent from a year earlier, despite a fall in domestic demand and economic difficulties. Total cement sales in Vietnam (domestic plus exports) in 2012 fell 3.5 per cent YoY to 54Mt. A recent update by the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA) shows domestic sales were down 7.71 per cent YoY to 45.5Mt during the year as a frozen real estate market hurt local demand. State-owned Indonesian cement producer PT  Semen Gresik achieved record production last year and targets further increases this year, according to a senior member of the company.
