Brazilian cement sales down 3% in April

Cement sales in Brazil slipped 2.8 per cent in April 2022 to 5.138Mt from 5.288Mt in April 2021, according to the national cement association, SNIC. The association attributed the drop in sales to geopolitical instability as well as internal factors such as record household debt, high interest rates and the highest inflation recorded in 27 years. The Argentine cement demand increased by 9.6 per cent YoY in April 2022 to reach 1,039,320t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In April 2021 cement’s consumption stood at 947,965t. All cement sold in the country was supplied by domestic producers with no imports reported. Cement production in Tajikistan declined in 1Q22

Cement plants in Tajikistan saw a 5.9 per cent YoY drop in cement production to 971,000t in the first quarter of 2022, according to the country’s statistics office. In January-March 2021, Tajikistan’s cement production reached 1.031Mt. In addition, the Ministry of Economic Development and trade has predicted cement output to advance to 7Mta by 2024 as well as a 200,000tpa increase of exports by 2024. In 2020 Tajikistan produced 4.2Mt of cement and exported 1.3Mta.

Italy's cement production index (base year 2015) increased from 65 in January 2022 to 86 in February 2022, an advance of three per cent when compared with February 2021, according to Federbeton, the country’s concrete association. Vietnam exports to dip as China weakens

Vietnam’s cement and clinker exports are expected to record an annual drop of 1.5 and two per cent YoY, respectively, to 45Mt in 2022-23, according to VNDirect Securities. Total cement deliveries in Vietnam reached 7,110,132t in March, representing a YoY increase of 25 per cent and a MoM advance of 101 per cent, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Tunisia-based Carthage Cement has improved its export turnover in the first quarter of 2022. Exports were up 32 per cent YoY to TND65m (US$21.8m).
