Building costs rise by 10-15 pct in the UAE

Building and construction contractors have increased their quotations for contracts by 10 to 15 per cent in view of the increase in the prices of building materials. Cement prices are also expected to rise soon.   According to a report in the Gulf Today, prices of building materials have gone up by between 3.3 per cent and 20 per cent, with steel topping the list of materials of increased prices.

The Pakistan Government is keen to bring cement prices down to Rs 280 per bag to give relief to consumer. In March, national cement production rose by 16.7 per cent compared with March 2005, to 798,000t, the State Statistics Committee has disclosed.  In March, cement production rose by 65.3 per cent compared with January.   In January-March, cement production rose by 3.8 per cent compared with January-March 2005, to 1,770,000t.

Indonesia’s domestic cement consumption fell 5.3 per cent last month to 2.51Mt, according to data from the country’s largest cement maker, PT Semen Gresik.  State-run Semen Gresik , which had an installed capacity of more than 16Mta, said its own domestic sales rose 9.8 per cent in March from the same month in 2005 to 1.24Mt Including exports, Gresik’s sales rose 0.7 percent to 1.26Mt.
