Venezuelan cement available, though supply limited

Fidelity Investment Inc (FII) has delivered on its promise to have Venezuelan cement by Thursday delivered into Guyana and was selling the product by the truckload yesterday, according to one customer.  The shortage of cement has prompted the government to engage in discussions with the Venezuelan authorities to supply Guyana with 20,000t to 30,000t of the scarce item in four to five shipments. Lucky Cement claims highest export

Lucky Cement Limited has claimed that it has emerged as the largest exporter of cement from Pakistan. Talking to Business Recorder on Wednesday, Executive Director A R Thaplawala said that during the period from July 1, 2005 to February 28, 2006, Lucky Cement exported 218,000t of cement to Afghanistan and Middle East.  He also said the daily production of the plant was around 10,000 tonnes.

A house at Portland Cottage in Clarendon, Jamaica, which was built with cement from a faulty batch, being demolished yesterday. JK eyes Pacific for white cement

JK Cement, one of the largest producers of white cement in India is seeking new markets in Australia and New Zealand. ACCC exports 19,000t of cement

According to El-Khabar newspaper (February 20, 2006), the Algerian Cement Company (ACC), Algeria’s first and only private cement plant, has exported 19,300t of cement and clinker. This cement was shipped through Jen Jen Port in Jijel and Bejaia Port toward Italy, Syria and Libya. ACC is planning to export 700,000t of cement through the current year to European, Arab and African countries.

Pakistani companies are finding it difficult to cope with the rising demand of cement. A tender commission of the Moscow department for coordinating resource supplies to city programs has named Eurocement Trade, as the winner of a tender for the supply of cement to several construction projects in Moscow districts in 2006. The overall volume is one million tonnes. Cement will be shipped on applications within the year on pre-payment terms.
