Florida Rock Industries wins naval contract

The US Navy has awarded a US$133,650 contract to Florida Rock Industries, Jacksonville, for concrete. The contract was awarded by the Naval Supply Systems Command, Fleet & Industrial Supply Center, Jacksonville, Fla. Work will be performed at the Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, Ga.

Metro Manila prices of construction materials fall

Prices of construction materials in Metro Manila dropped towards the end of last year, due to a decline in private building activities during the last quarter of 2005, the National Statistics Office (NSO) said. Utah has reportedly an abundance of limestone for mining but too little cement to keep up with construction demand. The shortage has more than doubled the price of concrete in the past year to $63.18 a square yard for finished pavement, according to a state price index. The Himachal Pradesh government has warned truck operators at Gujarat Ambuja Cement plant at Darlaghat, 45-km from here, with cancelling of their permits if they went on strike. Local cement producers are expecting bumper profits because cheaper imports are barred from South Africa. And before complaints that cheaper imports do not have SABS accreditation, give importers a chance to have their product tested. Gujarat Ambuja shipments rise 14 per cent

Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd. , India’s third-biggest cement maker, said on Wednesday its January shipments rose 14 per cent from a year earlier to 1.26Mt. Ambuja’s cement production in the same period totalled 1.27Mt, up 17 per cent from 1.08Mt a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

Cement exports slightly up and clinker exports down

According to Al-Riyadh newspaper, market sources reported that the total cement exports of the eight operating cement manufacturing companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia increased slightly to 1.6Mt in 2005, up from 1.5Mt in the previous year. Market sources also reported that the total clinker exports of the eight operating cement manufacturing companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decreased to 74,000t in 2005, down from 218,000t in the previous year.

Cemex confirms US price increase

Cemex plans to raise cement prices in the United States by US$5 per tonne, the executive vice president of planning and finance of Cemex, Hector Medina said on January 29, 2006. Cemex will definitely raise prices if the cement demand keeps its upward trend in the United States, Medina added.
