Chile cement sales increasing

Hawaiian Cement and the union that represents 20 of its workers averted a strike early this morning. They tentatively settled on a five-year contract. The strike was expected to start today just after midnight. Union leader Mel Kahele says he expects workers to ratify the contract within the next five days. According to “Tehran Times”, some 386,000t of cement, valued at US$20.1m, was exported from Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2005). The United States and Mexico are close to a deal that would allow Mexican cement producers to increase exports to the US market and end a 15-year-old trade fight, a top Mexican official said on Tuesday. At the request of the federal mediator, Hawaiian Cement has agreed to resume contract talks with the union representing 20 of its workers, said Michael Coad, company vice president and chief negotiator. Freight turnover of Kunda port falls

The freight turnover of Estonia`s Kunda port owned by Kunda Nordic Tsement (Kunda Nordic Cement) fell by 15.4 percent to 1.21Mt last year compared with 2004. A total of 454 ships called at the port, 14.7 per cent fewer than the year before. Carriage of the biggest group of freight, round timber, declined by 10.5 percent to 582,754 tons. Savinsky Cement: production up in 2005

Following the results of 2005 Savinskiy Cement Plant JSC (the Arkhangelsk region, incorporated in Eurocement Group) raised the output of cement by over eight per cent to 710,000t. The plant’s rated capacity is 1.4Mt. The products are shipped to the Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Leningrad, Kirov, Murmansk, Pskov, Kostroma, Yaroslavl regions and Komi republic, the company reported in a press release.
