Eurocement begins auction for 84.2% stake in plant

Russia's Eurocement has begun an open auction to sell an 84.19 per cent stake in its Akhangarancement plant in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The company is expected to sell 4,141,108 ordinary shares of the plant for a total value of UZS428.99bn (US$40.76m), according to a statement on the Republican Stock Exchange Tashkent.

Uzbekistan and South Korea to build Karakalpakstan plant

Uzbekistan and South Korea have been in talks to accelerate the implementation of an investment plan for the construction of a cement works in the Beruni region of Karakalpakstan, northwestern Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan sees 3% rise in production

Uzbekistan produced 8.8Mt of cement in the first 10 months of the 2020, up 2.6 per cent compared to the year-ago period. The largest volumes of cement were produced in the Tashkent region (46.7 per cent), followed by Navoi region (35.1 per cent) and Fergana region (12.8 per cent). The value of cement exported from Uzbekistan in the January-October period amounted to US$27.6m. Meanwhile, the value of cement imports reached US$105.5m.

Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy denies reports about electricity supply

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has denied reports regarding the cessation of electricity supply to certain cement producers. According to the dispatch centre, the Akhangaran cement plant received 605,000kWh of electricity on 24 November. On average, this plant is supplied with 540,000kWh of electricity per day. Elsewhere, the Kuvasay cement plant consumes an average of 332,000kWh electricity per day.

Two plants in Uzbekistan report fall in production

According to Uzbekistan’s Antimonopoly Committee, Akhangarancement announced the failure of two rotary kilns on 7 October. As a result, the company’s cement volumes offered for sale decreased on average from 7000 to 5000tpd. Almalyk MMC’s Jizzakh cement plant has also seen its production volumes decrease from 11,000 to 5000tpd on average, due to ongoing repairs on its kiln. Uzbekistan’s Kyzylkumcement saw a net profit of US$20.3m in January-June 2020, rising 70.9 per cent YoY. Revenue also advanced 12.4 per cent to US$97.1m. Uzbekistan saw construction material imports decline 20.9 per cent YoY to US$592.2m in the first half of 2020, according to the State Statistics Committee. Uzbekistan's cement capacity reportedly set to rise 60% YoY

Uzbekistan’s cement production capacity will rise to 20Mta by the end of 2020, up 60 per cent YoY from 12.5Mta at the end of 2019, according to Ulugbek Abrayev, deputy chair of Uzbekqurilishmateriallari. Mr Abrayev added that the country will produce 14.5Mt in 2021, around 73 per cent of the projected capacity for 2021. At present 10 cement plant construction projects across eight of Uzbekistn’s 12 regions are due for completion in 2020 and 2021.
