According to RHI’s guiding principle of providing customers with a competitive advantage through worldwide technology leadership, work is continuously underway to develop new products and technologies. The latest result of these efforts, tailored to the cement industry, is the Q-series encompassing a number of basic bricks with a new technological design, of which ANKRAL Q2 (formerly ANKRAL T2) is one. Implementation of the new innovative ‘flexibilising’ concept, the so-called Q-concept, originally established for the premium brand ANKRAL QF, guarantees excellent technological properties. The development of ANKRAL Q2 is focussed on the cement industry’s demands for economic solutions able to withstand the challenging conditions in alternative fuel-fired kilns. Due to the new innovative brick concept, ANKRAL Q2 represents a highly-economic brick grade with a broad application range in the basic zone of rotary cement kilns. Introduced to the market at the beginning of 2011, two results of the first installations are reported in this article. To date, all installations have met the high expectations of this new brick brand.
