Japanese companies are expanding efforts to provide energy-conserving technologies to China, which has seen a sharp spike in power consumption due to its explosive economic growth. To address the ballooning demand, the Chinese government is placing a top priority on promoting energy efficiency.

Japanese companies, which boast advanced technologies in this area, are now eagerly eyeing this market. Sumitomo and Taiheiyo Cement unit, Taiheiyo Engineering Corp are teaming up with a Hong Kong cement firm on a project to generate energy with steam produced from waste heat, while Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plans to launch a wind power business.
