On 14 January the foundation stone for a new cement plant in Togo was laid in the presence of the country’s president, Faure Gnassingbé.
The 0.2Mta Cimtogo-Kara works, located at Awandjélo, in the region of Kara and 420km north of the capital Lomé, represents an investment of US$15m by Scantogo, a subsidiary of Germany’s HeidelbergCement. The facility is expected to come online in two years’ time and supply product to the domestic market.
Earlier, HeidelbergCement built a US$250m clinker plant at Sika-Condji.
