Zambia starts work on new 1Mta cement plant

Zambia's President, Edgar Lungu, has officially launched China National Building Materials' (CNBM) cement plant in Chongew Mapande Industrial Park, Zambia.

The project will be undertaken in two phases, creating over 400 direct jobs and a further 2500 jobs for Zambians once fully operational.

"The first phase which is being commissioned today has a total investment of US$200m and consists of 1Mt cement production line per year, a 60m pan brick production line, a 200,000Mm3 of premix concrete production line, 700,000t of aggregate production line and 280,000t manufactured sand capacity,” the President said.

CNBM CEO, Lui Zhijiang, said he is optimistic that CNBM-Zambia will make a good reputation on the Zambian market adding that its products will be of high quality.

Mr Zhijiang said his industry will enable local workers to improve their living standards and contribute to the development goals made by the Zambian government.
