Low-carbon cement technology company Terra CO2 has begun construction of a new 30,167ft2 (2803m2) concrete laboratory and headquarters near Golden, Colorado, more than doubling its existing local footprint.

Construction of the facility at 1341 Avery St began in June, with completion expected by April 2027. Terra CO2’s 32 Denver-area employees will relocate to the site from its existing 12,000ft2 of pilot plant and laboratory space in Golden.

The new facility will support development of Terra CO2’s electric vitrification technology and its Opus Zero product, which the company describes as a zero-carbon cement alternative.

Terra CO2 will retain its principal R&D facility in Vancouver, Canada, where co-founder and Chief Science Officer DJ Lake leads a 10-person team and operates a small pilot plant.

The expansion follows the recent appointment of Pete Lyons as Terra CO2’s CEO.
