US construction spending declined 3.2 per cent YoY in June 2026 to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of US$2.167trn, according to data from the US Census Bureau.
Spending was also down 0.1 per cent from May, reflecting continued weakness across much of the construction sector.
Residential construction spending fell 3.3 per cent YoY amid continued pressure from elevated mortgage rates, while non-residential spending declined 4.7 per cent from June 2025.
Public construction provided a more positive picture, increasing 1.7 per cent YoY. Highway and street construction continued to support the segment, assisted by funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
The outlook for US construction spending remains subdued for 2026 as the pace of project activity continues to ease across the sector.
