BUA Group reportedly in talks to build two plants in east Africa

The BUA Group of Nigeria in talks with China’s Sinoma to build two cement plants in east Africa and a steel plant in Nigeria for US$1.9bn, according to a report by Reuters. BUA Group chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu, told the international news agency that the two cement plants will have a capacity of 3Mta and cost US$700m. BUA Group has signed US$600m worth of contracts with China's Sinoma International Engineering Co to double capacity at its Obu cement plant.  The plant currently produces 3.5Mta, but by the end of 2017 capacity will rise to 7Mta. BUA Group is about to release cement from its newly-built US$600m Obu plant in Okpella, Edo State, with clinker production already operational. BUA signs gas supply deal for Edo Cement Co

BUA Cement has signed a gas sales and purchase agreement (GSPA) with Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) for its Edo Cement Co subsidiary. Leadership Newspapers reported that the agreement  was signed by both parties in Lagos at the weekend.
