Bolivia: Soboce income falls 49% in FY14-15

Soboce profits fell 48.8 per cent YoY from US$31.46m to USS16.12m in the period April 2014-March 2015. The result due to a rise in costs, heavy rains and the payment of a US$7.41m fine for alleged anti-competitive practices. Sales volumes and prices have remained stable, according to the company. Bolivia: Soboce raises bagged cement price

The price of a bag of cement produced by Bolivia’s Soboce increased 4.5 per cent or BOB2.50 to BOB58.50 in La Paz and by BOB3 to BOB58 in Oruro. Soboce has said the rise would bring the price in line with other parts of Bolivia. However, building companies attribute the advance to an increase in salaries at the cement producer this year.

Votorantim Cementos has announced a US$1600m investment programme that involves five new cement plants in Brazil, two in Turkey and one in Bolivia as well a the expansion and modernisation of a number of existing facilities. These investments cover the 2015 to 2018 period. These projects will add 6Mta of  capacity in Brazil and 2.5Mt elsewhere. Longer-term, additional capacities are also being considered for the USA and  Morocco.

Bolivia: Itacamba Cemento to keep receiving Brazilian imports

Bolivian cement firm Itacamba Cemento will continue to import cement from Brazil until the 2H16 when it expects to start up its new plant in Yacuses. Itacamba Cemento SA has awarded Gebr Pfeiffer Inc the contract for a raw mill which will be installed at the cement producer's new 2000tpd cement plant in the Bolivian municipality of Yacuces. Peruvian conglomerate Gloria Group has acquired an outstanding 51.35 per cent stake in Bolivia's largest cement producer Sociedad Boliviana de Cemento (Soboce) for US$300m. Bolivia: FLSmidth to supply new Soboce plant

FLSmidth has signed a contract with Sociedad Boliviana de Cemento SA (SOBOCE) for the supply of equipment and machinery for a cement plant in Bolivia. The cost of the project is estimated at US$180m and will include the construction of a 0.8Mta cement plant in Yacuses, Puerto Suarez, that is expected to be fuelled by natural gas. Bolivia: Potosi plant ruled out

Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales, ruled out the building of a cement plant in Quiburi, Potosi.  The new works was expected to cost US$401m, including the building of a pipeline that feeds the plant. However, the project was postponed indefinitely although Empresa Pública Productiva Cementos de Bolivia (Ecebol) launched an international tender in February 2012 for the construction and commissioning of the plant.

Sinoma signs EP contract with Itacamba Cemento

Sinoma International has signed a formal EP contract with Itacamba Cemento, a subsidiary of Votorantim, for a 2000tpd line in Bolivia. The contract scope is from raw material crushing to cement silo. Sinoma’s  responsibilities cover engineering design, mechanical equipment supply, transportation on DAP basis, on-site services, etc. The project schedule is 24 months.
