CIMAF inaugurates Cameroon plant

Ciment de l’Afrique (CIMAF), a subsidiary of the Addoha Group of Morocco, has opened its new factory in Cameroon. The new plant, located in the industrial area of Bonaberi in Douala, was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Cameroon, Philemon Yang. Commissioning of the plant comes nearly a year after the start of cement production by the plant with a current capacity of 500,000tpa.

Dangote Cement has announced plans to construct a second cement plant in Cameroon, at a cost of US$150m. According to local press, the new factory will be located in Yaounde and will have a production capacity of 1.5Mta. Dangote Cement reported a double-digit rise in first-quarter revenue, boosted by contributions from its new factories in Africa. Group cement sales volumes rose by 3.4 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2014, with volumes from Senegal and Sephaku Cement offsetting a decrease in volumes in Nigeria. Dangote Cement’s new plant in Ethiopia will open in May this year, helping to close the gap between demand and supply in the country. Nigeria’s construction industry is urging Dangote Cement to put into effect the promised cement price cuts, as announced in November last year. Cameroon: first raw materials arrive at Dangote’s Douala plant

Dangote Cement has received the first cargoes of raw materials for its new cement works at Douala, Cameroon. The delivery consists of clinker, gypsum and pozzolan, produced in the 27ha quarry in Tombel, in the south-west of the country. Dangote has an exploitation agreement for five years for the location. Over the past two weeks, the company has been carrying out equipment tests in the new 1.5Mta plant, which represents an investment of XAF50bn (US$90m).
