Cameroon’s Minister of Commerce threatens to shut down Cimencam plant

Cameroon’s Minister of Commerce, Luc Mbarga Atangana has informed LafargeHolcim’s Cameroon subsidiary Cimencam it will shut down the cement plant if it proceeds to increase its prices unilaterally.   If the price increase goes ahead, Mr Mbarga Atangana has said that he will see himself “in the obligation to order the installation of seals on your installations.” Cement is a product that is subject to the preliminary price approval procedure.      

Atlantic Cement soon to start construction on 1Mta plant

The Autonomous Port of Kribi (PAK) in southern Cameroon has made a 10ha plot available in its industrial zone to Atlantic Group, owned by Ivorian billionaire Kone Dossongui. In the next few months, Atlantic Group will build a 1Mta cement plant that will trade under the name of Atlantic Cement. Dangote Cameroon sells 1Mt of cement in the 9M20

Dangote Cameroon has announced that it sold around 1Mt of cement from its 1.5Mta grinding plant in the first nine months of 2020, up 18 per cent YoY from the 9M19. The company has estimated that it had a 39 per cent market share during the period. The rise in demand has been attributed to increased investments in construction projects. “The market is primarily driven by individual construction projects and government housing estates,” said the company.

Dangote's 1H20 results see 2% revenue growth

Dangote Cement reported group revenue up two per cent to NGN476.9bn (US$1.23bn) in the 1H20. Group EBITDA rose to NGN218.1bn and pan-African EBITDA increased by 31.6 per cent to NGN31.5bn. Nigeria’s Dangote Cement exported its first shipment of clinker to Senegal during the weekend. The 27,800t shipment set off from the company’s terminal in Apapa Port, Lagos. Sales volumes of Dangote Cameroon fell 6.5 per cent YoY to 1.1Mt in 2019. Cement prices averaged at US$108/t in the financial year.
