Mexico's construction industry contracted 6.6 per cent YoY during the third quarter of 2019, its worst period since the first quarter of 2009, due to lack of public work and fewer Infrastructure. Cemex reportedly looks to sell stake in Louisville plant

Cemex is reportedly looking for a buyer for its controlling interest in the Kosmos cement plant in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The company is working with Bank of America Corp and Citigroup Inc on the sale of its 75 per cent stake, said the unnamed sources for El Financiero. The remaining stake in the company is owned by Buzzi Unicem. The sources also noted that no definitive decisions have been made and the deliberations may not lead to a transaction.

Cemex subsidiary to enter Chinese market

Cemex's venture capital unit has announced that it will be entering the Chinese market through a partnership with Glodon, a local provider of digital platform services for the industry, and Interdream Ventures, a venture capital firm seeking to digitise the construction and decoration industries. Some 50 fire fighters and eight fire engines were called to Cemex's Rugby cement plant in Warwickshire, UK, at 2.15am on 5 November to put out a fire that had spread to four storeys of the 70m-high preheater tower. Cemex has reported consolidated net sales of US$3.5bn in the 3Q19, representing a decrease of four per cent YoY, or one per cent on a like-for-like (LfL) basis for the ongoing operations and adjusting for foreign-exchange fluctuations. Mexico City’s cement prices have fallen in September compared to June 2019, according to a survey conducted by Morgan Stanley Casa de Bolsa.
