Tajikistan eyes 20% increase in cement output in 2020

Tajikistan has significantly increased production of cement this year despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated economic recession in the country, according to the Tajik Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and local media reports. Steppe Cement reported a 15 per cent decline in volumes for the first half of 2017 while turnover was up by four per cent over the same period as the Kazakhstan-based producer focussed on pricing. Steppe Cement reported a 35 per cent YoY decline in cement sales volumes to 124,669t in the first quarter of 2017 as cement consumption in Kazakhstan fell five per cent YoY. The Italcementi Group has signed an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) granting it a loan for approximately EUR20m to fund the modernisation of the Shymkent cement plant in southern Kazakhstan. Over the first 10 months of this year Tajikistan produced more than 1Mt of cement, an increase of 776,000t compared to the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT). Talks between Tajiki and Chinese investors are underway over the construction of a cement plant in the south of the central Asian country. Steppe Cement profit rises as Kazakh market grows 13%

Kazakhstan-based Steppe Cement Friday reported an increase in profit and revenue in the full year 2013, as domestic demand grew by double-digit figures. Steppe posted pretax profit of US$13m for 2013, up from US$12m a year earlier, as revenue rose to US$123m from US$120.2m in 2012. EBITDA for 2013 rose to US$28.7m compared with US$24.9m in 2012.
