Advance in Argentine April cement consumption

In April 2015 Argentine market demand expanded by eight per cent MoM while compared to April 2014, the figure rose by 16.7 per cent to 1,045,369t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Domestic cement producers delivered 1,053,939t, including exports, representing a 7.5 per cent MoM  and a 16.4 per cent YoY increase.

Holcim Indonesia recorded a decline in sales revenue of five per cent to IDR2.25trn in the first three months of the year, as volumes were down by seven per cent, reflecting the contraction in domestic demand over the period. Tunisia’s Ciments de Bizerte saw its turnover fall by 19.6 per cent YoY in 1Q15 to TND11.115m. In Tunisia, the figure fell by 11.5 per cent as domestic demand fell by 9.7 per cent. However, the company noted a 84 per cent drop in exports due to the volatility of the Algerian market and the weak demand from Libya.

Spanish cement consumption increased 8.5 per cent YoY to 2,553,962t in the first quarter of 2015. In March cement demand expanded by 12.3 per cent to 983,210t, according to cement association Oficemen. Peru’s cement dispatches fell one per cent YoY to 806,000t in March as public spending was down and rains affected the construction industry, according to cement association Asocem. Regional and municipal governments saw their spending cut by 30 and 61 per cent, respectively. Output in the country’s cement plants increased two per cent to 861,000t when compared with March 2014. Polish cement producers sold nearly 2.7Mt of cement in the first quarter of this year, up 3.4 per cent YoY, with further growth anticipated in 2015 and beyond. US cement consumption will continue its growth trend in 2015, with cement and clinker imports forecast to grow rapidly in 2017 and beyond, according to the Portland Cement Association (PCA).
