US market picks up 12% YoY in January 2015

US market demand reached 5,355,378t, representing a 12.1 per cent increase on January 2014, according to preliminary figures by the US Geological Survey. Shipments of Portland and blended cement by US producers reached 4,859,373t in January 2015. Clinker production stood at 5,407,342t. In addition, the country imported some 496,005t of cement. Exports by US producers totalled 51,037t, down 9.5 per cent YoY.

Vietnam cement sales down 0.5% in 1Q15

Vietnam's cement sales in 1Q15 slipped 0.5 per cent YoY to 10.6Mt as many projects started late after a long holiday and exports fell 35 per cent in March, according to the Construction Industry. Domestic consumption in March decreased 23 per cent YoY to 3.91Mt.

Colombia: Feb cement sales up 6.1%

Colombia saw a 6.1 per cent YoY rise in cement dispatches in February as 985,300t of the product were delivered, according to DANE, the national statistics office. The largest increases were experienced in Nariño (+52.1 per cent), Bolívar (+37 per cent), Antioquia (+17 per cent) and Bogotá (7.7 per cent). Total cement dispatches (including exports) from Argentina’s cement producers fell five per cent MoM in February, but rose 11.8 per cent YoY to 897,299t, according to cement association AFCP. Domestic deliveries reached 885,296t, down 4.6 per cent MoM but up 12.9 per cent YoY. Argentina imported 273t of cement in February, higher than the 227t reported for January. After registering a 5.61 per cent advance in domestic cement consumption in January 2015, Morocco’s cement market slipped 0.45 per cent to 1.137Mt in February, according to the Ministry of Habitation. For the first two months of the year, cement deliveries increased 2.42 per cent YoY to 2.22Mt. Despite lower sales figures in February, cement producers expect their deliveries to stabilise in 2015.

Indonesian monthly consumption down 6.2%

Indonesian cement consumption during February 2015 fell by 6.2 per cent YoY to 4.2Mt, latest data from the Indonesia Cement Association (ASI) shows. For the first two months of the year, demand declined by 1.2 per cent YoY to 9.07Mt. Peru’s cement market contracted by 4.9 per cent YoY as dispatches fell from 816,000t to 775,000t in February 2015, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association.
