Puerto Rican cement sales down 14.4% YoY in Oct

Cement sales in Puerto Rico fell to 1085m bags in October, representing a 14.4 per cent YoY fall, the largest in the past nine months. The reduction has been attributed to a contraction in housing construction and a lack of government resources invested in public works. Domestic cement production decreased 22.5 per cent to 872m of bags. In 2014, production fell 1.9 per cent following two years of increases.

Argentina’s monthly cement consumption 2.5% ahead

The Argentina cement market saw increased sales in October 2015, up 2.5 per cent YoY from 1,100,852t to 1,127,869t, according to AFCP, the country's cement association. Export sales, however, fell by 56 per cent from 14,344t to 6342t over the same period. In the year to date, dispatches rose 8.4 per cent to 10,175,570t from 9,383,267t posted in January-October 2014. Exports experienced a 42 per cent fall from 137,249t to 79,602t.

Colombia sees 5.2% market expansion in September

Colombia’s cement demand expanded by 5.2 per cent YoY in September 2015 to reach 1.143Mt on the back of a strong performance in the contractor and ready-mix sectors, which noted a rise in cement consumption of 25.9 and 13.3 per cent, respectively. Spain’s cement consumption in the first nine months of 2015 increased by 4.8 per cent, but the growth rate decelerated in the past three months, according to Oficemen, the country’s cement association. Cement dispatches in Peru slipped 1.9 per cent in September to 0.887Mt from 0.905Mt in September 2014, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Total cement sales increased 14.9 per cent MoM and seven per cent YoY to 1.128Mt in September, according to AFCP, the Argentine cement producers’ association.
