Pakistan exports fall in 5MFY13

Pakistan’s cement sales in the first half of fiscal FY14 edged ahead by 1.8 per cent with a long-awaited pick-up in exports recorded in December, latest data from industry association APCMA shows. Pakistani cement exports to India down 11%

Pakistan’s cement exports to India posted a fall of 11 per cent during Jul-Nov of this fiscal year compared to the same period last fiscal year, according to the Pakistani Business Recorder. Industry sources said non-tariff barriers are hampering cement export to India, which fell from 183,400t to 163,500t over the five months.  Pakistan’s overall cement exports fell by three per cent to 3.5Mt. Currently, the country’s cement producers export around 25 per cent of total production.

Pakistan cement dispatches in November fell six per cent compared to the previous month but cement prices have risen by four per cent since the start of the current fiscal. Vietnam has reported a double-digit rise in sales over the first 11 months of the year, with exports up 63 per cent YoY. Pakistan cement sales in the first four months of the current fiscal slipped 0.39 per cent, while capacity utilisation stood at 70 per cent due to heavy monsoons and Eid holidays, a spokesperson from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association has said.
