Peru’s cement market expands 11.4% in 1H13

Domestic cement dispatches in Peru totalled 4,904,873t in the first half of 2013, representing an increase of 11.42 per cent when compared with 1H12, according to Peru’s cement producers’ organisation, Asocem. Cement production in the Jan-Jun period reached 5,020,162t, up 12.1 per cent YoY from 4,478,151t. June proved an excellent month for exports as local cement producers shipped 92,271t of cement across the country’s borders, noting a 37.4 per cent rise YoY.

In May, Peru’s Asocem members delivered 832,648t of cement to the domestic market and exported 12,460t. For the year to-date, deliveries increased by 12.7 per cent YoY.

Total cement dispatches by members of Peruvian cement association Asocem reached 3,345,226t in the first four months of this year, rising 12.42 per cent YoY. Peruvian cement producer Cementos Yura has placed an order with Loesche America Inc for a clinker/additives grinding plant to installed at its Arequipa plant, Peru. Peruvian cement producer Cementos Pacasmayo reported a sales increase of 6.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2013. Cement dispatches from the Peruvian market reached 2,476,577t in the first quarter of 2013, representing a YoY rise of 10.8 per cent on the same period of last year (2,235,485t). Peruvian cement producer Cementos Pacasmayo’s reported that cement sales volume increased by 16.6 per cent in 2012 compared to 2011, and 14.2 per cent in 4Q12 compared to 4Q11. Cement EBITDA increased 7.9 per cent in 2012 to PEN292.1m, and 11.7% in 4Q12 to PEN78.3m. Cementos Lima fine US$2.2m for unfair trade practices

Peru’s leading cement producer, Cementos Lima, has been fined PEN5.7m (US$2.24m) for unfair trade practices. The penalty was imposed by Indecopi, the country’s Institute for Competitiveness and Protection of Intellectual Property, as it accused the cement maker of refusing to sell its product to retail outlets that also offer Quisqueya cement, produced by Cemex.
