Peru: cement dispatches edge ahead

Between January and May 2014, Peru’s cement market expanded by 0.51 per cent YoY to 4,129,906t, according to the latest figures from the domestic cement association, Asocem. Production rose by 0.95 per cent YoY to 4,231,221t in the first five months of the year, from 4,191,295Mt in the same period a year ago. Exports jumped from 81,356t to 95,716t, up 17.65 per cent during Jan-May.

Peru: Unacem market share slips to 49%

Peruvian cement company Unacem has seen its market share fall from 51.42 per cent in 1Q13 to 49.14 per cent in 1Q14, according to news service Gestión. The cement maker has attributed the decline to a combination of “aggressive competition from imported cement at dumping prices and lower cement demand”.

Peruvian producer Cementos Pacasmayo reported a drop in net income of 11.8 per cent YoY to PEN39.8m (US$14.1m) in the first quarter of 2014. EBITDA came in at PEN80.7m compared to PEN81.3m in the corresponding period of 2013. In March, the Peruvian cement market remained broadly stable from 815,317t in February to 814,495t, according to domestic cement association, Asocem.   Output from local producers increased 1.4 per cent from 832,275t the previous month to 844,301t and exports rose 8.1 per cent from 15,349t in February to 16,599t. Peruvian domestic dispatches stable

Cement dispatches in Peru edged up 0.14 per cent in Jan-Feb 2014 to 1,639,454t when compared with the equivalent period of the previous year, according to Peru’s cement association, Asocem. However, producers saw a 25.3 per cent YoY drop in exports, which reached 32,569t. Cement production in the country’s cement plants fell 1.2 per cent to 1,657,696t when compared with Jan-Feb 2013.

Cement shipments in Peru reached 824,137.39t in January, according to the country’s cement assocation Asocem. This represents a YoY decrease of 3.1 per cent. In January, Peruvian cement producers exported 17,220t.

Cement deliveries in Peru reached 10,256,359t in 2013, up 7.15 per cent YoY when compared with the 9,571,920t dispatched in 2012, according to Peru’s cement association, Asocem. Cement dispatches in Peru increased 7.45 per cent YoY to 9,408,853t between January and November 2013, according to the its cement association Asocem. The latest figures confirm a cooling trend as dispatches in October increased 8.23 per cent and January-November 2012 showed a rise of 16.6 per cent.
