Holcim exits Uganda and Tanzania

Holcim has signed agreements to divest its businesses in Uganda and Tanzania. It has agreed to sell Hima Cement Ltd , its local subsidiary in Uganda, to the Sarrai Group, for an enterprise value of US$120m.  Holcim has also agreed to sell its 65 per cent share in Mbeya Cement Co Ltd in Tanzania to Amsons Group for an undisclosed sum. Tanzania Portland Cement reports 9M profit up 6%

Tanzanian cement producer Tanzania Portland Cement PLC has posted a six per cent increase in pretax profit in the first nine months of the year as domestic and export cement demand has surged. Pretax profit increased by six per cent YoY to TZS110.53bn (US$47.4m) in the 9M22 from TZS94.82bn in the year-ago period. Dangote Cement 's pan-African volumes reduced by 11 per cent to 4.9Mt from 5.5Mt in the 1H22 due to increased supply chain challenges and maintenance activities.  The best-performing markets for the group were Ethiopia, Senegal and Tanzania. Cement prices in Tanzania to fall?

There was a modest fall in cement production in Tanzania in 2021 as output fell to 6.436Mt when compared with 6.496Mt in 2020, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. East African Portland Cement Co (EAPCC) is looking to target cement sales in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). “In the past 10 years, EAPCC has been missing from the infrastructural agenda due to competition among other challenges. Tanzania’s Tanga port has received a consignment of 50,000t of clinker from Saudi Arabia, which is reportedly on transit to Prime Cement in Rwanda.
