Tanzania Portland Cement (TPC PLC), also known as Twiga Cement, recorded a 28 per cent YoY increase in operating profit for 2018, rising to TZS80.06bn (US$34.8m) from TZS62.67bn. After receiving approval to acquire Cemtech Ltd , Tanzania’s Simba Cement has announced plans to construct the Ortum Cement project that Cemtech had struggled to get off the ground. The project in West Pokot County, Kenya, was due to start in 2010. However, due to the recent developments, work is now expected to begin within a year. Over 14,000t of cement is set to be exported from Iran’s southern island of Qeshm to Somalia, according to Iran Daily. Sinoma International, which merged with China National Building Materials (CNBM) last year, has been given the go-ahead to construct a US$1bn cement plant in Tanga. The Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) confirmed that it has supplied Sinoma and Hengya Cement (T) Ltd with the requisite incentives to begin construction of the company's US$1bn greenfield cement plant in Tanga region. Dangote Cement announced a 13.5 per cent rise in group revenues to NGN685.29bn (US$1.88bn) for 9M18 as sales volumes advanced 7.6 per cent to nearly 17.8Mt.
