After receiving approval to acquire Cemtech Ltd , Tanzania’s Simba Cement has announced plans to construct the Ortum Cement project that Cemtech had struggled to get off the ground. Over 14,000t of cement is set to be exported from Iran’s southern island of Qeshm to Somalia, according to Iran Daily. "A 14,500t cargo of bagged cement produced in Qeshm will be exported to Somalia on a Tanzanian ship named AMINA-H," said Pejman Bahrami, deputy head for maritime transport and port affairs, Qeshm Free Zone Organization. Sinoma International, which merged with China National Building Materials (CNBM) last year, has been given the go-ahead to construct a US$1bn cement plant in Tanga. The Tanzanian Investment Centre granted permits to Sinoma, and its subsidiary Hengya Cement Co Ltd, for both the cement plant and a 1.2GW power station. The Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) confirmed that it has supplied Sinoma and Hengya Cement (T) Ltd with the requisite incentives to begin construction of the company's US$1bn greenfield cement plant in Tanga region. Dangote Cement announced a 13.5 per cent rise in group revenues to NGN685.29bn (US$1.88bn) for 9M18 as sales volumes advanced 7.6 per cent to nearly 17.8Mt.
